Il caso Gamestop: chiare evidenze di un fallimento regolamentare e di supervisione dei mercati finanziari


Abstract


The GameStop story highlighted the power of technology to democratize access to financial markets. Alongside this issue, which is mainly of a political-sociological nature, the issue of on-line trading on the financial markets is of central importance, influenced by the growing use of retail investors to trading platforms and information available on social networks. The changes introduced by sharing platforms, in the process of forming user opinions, have radically changed the characteristics of operations on the financial markets. The imbalance between the rules envisaged for traditional operators and the regulatory vacuum on the web and social networks is becoming increasingly striking. In the absence of adequate regulatory safeguards, the result ultimately appears to be irreversible: to crack the rationality of the financial markets and their transparency. Given the current trends, therefore, the urgent need to prepare regulatory measures aimed at regulating these new investment methods more effectively, providing adequate protection to the needs of small investors and at the same time guaranteeing the integrity of the markets
