La riqualificazione urbana della città di Salerno e il caso del “Crescent” di Piero De Rosa

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to review the administrative history of the rebirth of the urban area of the city of Salerno under the administration of the mayor Vincenzo De Luca from 1993 until now, investigating the construction of new buildings by the most famous architects in the world. The mayor of the city, in fact, wants to make Salerno the new Barcelona of the Tyrrhenian Sea through the creation of new structures and buildings that are rapidly transforming the urban landscape of Salerno. Among the actions that have attracted the most critical comments there is the construction of the so called “Crescent”, a circular building designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill. The building, that is under construction, is at the centre of the criticism of the environmental committees, who complain deficiencies about the approval measures for the construction. Moreover, the paper try to reconstruct the story of the Crescent from the beginning to the recent sentence of the Supreme Court , offering a critical view of the facts.
